Career:
Jennifer has been working in an educational setting for 8 years, prior to this her work included employee assistance programmes and adult motivational counselling. Following a degree in Psychology, she obtained an M.Sc. in Forensic Psychology. This led to a specialisation in Bullying behaviours and her thesis on ‘the effect of sociomoral development and aggression in adolescence’. Since this she has also completed a post graduate diploma in Guidance and Counselling and continues to work in this area in a school in Dublin.
Her policy on anti bullying was highly commended by the Department of Education as best practice and her strategies in investigating and dealing with bullying behaviours in schools have had proven success. She is keen to stress that a student is not a bully, they are engaging in bullying behaviours that need to be addressed and worked upon. Bullying must not be ignored, it rarely goes away on its own. She is passionate about enforcing policy and anti bullying weeks as a nationwide event and ensuring every school follows set policy and procedure when tackling bullying issues.
She has immense interest in all aspects of adolescence especially identity formation and anti bullying work. She frequently addresses both student and parent groups for seminars on many topics from general parenting and adolescent issues, career guidance and of course, anti bullying work.
